Christmas Tree Excursion (in words)

What a fun and eventful morning we had.... We started our trek to get our 2008 Christmas tree (Grace's first) at about 10am. It was an overcast, chilly, cozy and typically beautiful Colorado morning as we drove out a snowy mountain road only 3 miles away from our house. Grace Anne, in typical Grace Anne form, fell asleep before we were a mile away from the house. I snapped, snapped, snapped lots of pictures. The truck slid off into a ditch. My hero of a husband manuevered the truck out of the ditch. Grace Anne slept. Rob remembered the exact spot where I had scoped out a tree a few days prior. We pulled over in the middle of the road. Grace Anne slept. Don't worry. Apparently no one is as crazy as the Colorado Rosenbergs to drive as far as we did out the snowy mountain road. We geared up with saw, gloves and camera and hoofed it through the snow to our tree. Grace Anne slept. Rob cut the tree, dogs and I played in the snow, I hurt my hand getting a tape measure out of the tool box in the truck, we got the tree in the car, and got some more pics. Hero husband turned the car around on the dicey road. Yup, Sleepy McSleepSleep continued her slumber. We drove along glad to be past the icky part of the road, watched a passing truck slide into a ditch, watched driver manuever truck out of the ditch, then made sure to pull over and applaud his skill. Yeah, you guessed it..., Grace was still snug in her seat - ASLEEP! Certain this was the finale of our adventure we kept trucking along, only to have the tree roll from its resting position directly onto our loyal dogs who were freezing beside it in the bed of the truck. Then, when putting it back in place, Rob noticed that our permit for the tree was no longer attached to it. And so there we were: two frozen dogs, two adults (hoping not to get pulled over by the forest service), one sleeping baby, one Christmas tree with no permit, all on our way home! WHEW! Now, safely at home, as I recount the events of the day for all to read..... sweet, sweet Grace JUST woke up. FOUR HOURS LATER.
